YOUTH SERVICES

The Treatment Model.
Our intensive treatment program is based on the Matrix Model, which promotes a structured treatment experiences. Individual's enrolled in treatment services are provided with the necessary structure, information and support they need to abstain from substance abuse and establish long-term sobriety and recovery.

Assessment.
We offer outpatient substance abuse treatment tailored to the individual’s needs. The length of the program is determined through an assessment conducted by our highly qualified intake staff trained at providing case management services. An individualized treatment plan is developed for that is typically divided into three eight-week phases.

Treatment.
We provide comprehensive and culturally competent outpatient substance abuse treatment programs for at-risk youth 12-18 years of age. Our program is focused on prevention and sobriety through peer counseling, mentorship, tutoring, and outreach into local schools, churches and community-based organizations.

On-Site Services. Our intensive program consists of a minimum of six hours per week of direct treatment services in the form of group and individual counseling sessions, where personal issues pertaining to the substance abuse issues may be discussed confidentially. Our program also offers mandatory random monitored urine testing throughout treatment or when substance use is suspected to ensure the individual is maintaining sobriety during treatment. To enhance the treatment process and include the family unit, family support groups and educational workshops are available throughout treatment to family members.

CARE Program. Our programs and services are based on empowering the individual. As a CARE provider in the state of California, we are able to offer eligible youth ages 12-20 years with free and confidential substance abuse treatment, individual and group counseling, family therapy, education sessions, drug testing and recovery support services. To learn more about CARE services and whether you might qualify, please contact your local TFSC location.

In-School Services. Our programs are offered within and in conjunction with several local middle, high schools and continuation schools. We provide students with in-school treatment services, drug prevention workshops & presentations, and service learning opportunities. We work closely with school administrators, teachers and parents to build a drug-free campus and make available supportive services for parents and siblings of youth.

Probation Youth. Youth involved in the Juvenile Justice system are often linked with having issues with substance abuse, anger management, domestic violence, self-esteem and a physically and emotionally unhealthy lifestyle. Our youth substance abuse treatment program is designed to address all of these issues and more for high-risk youth. Our substance abuse counselors have experience working closely with youth, their families, case workers, probation officers, courts and law enforcement to ensure that high-risk youth are receiving comprehensive care, as well as meeting court required treatment services.

LGBTQ Youth. Youth who identify themselves with the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning) community with a co-occurring substance abuse issue often face unique issues. We provide a small group substance abuse therapy for youth who identify with the LGBTQ community, or are questioning their sexuality/gender in a safe and open space. Youth are able to discuss the underlying causes of their substance abuse and learn about making healthy lifestyle choices, including developing a stronger sense of self-esteem, dealing with relationship conflict/abuse, peer pressure, bullying and STD prevention.

Youth Smoking Cessation Outreach and Prevention: We offer a specialized two-day smoking intervention and prevention workshop geared exclusively to youth (12-18 years). This program is available on-site at our locations as well as in collaboration with local schools. We are available to work closely with teachers, staff and administrators in developing and implementing smoking cessation workshops to best meet the needs of the student body. Our staff can take the lead in the development of the curriculum and supplementary education materials specifically directed towards the needs of the school.

Youth Mentoring and Tutoring. Youth Mentoring/Tutoring Services are available to youth enrolled in treatment services (on-site and off-site) as well as to members of the community at large at our Sylmar and Long Beach locations. This valuable service is provided free of charge by volunteers from the community, including recent college graduates and working professionals who enjoy giving back to the community. Services are available based on the availability of volunteers to provide services.

Youth Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention. Youth involved in gangs and criminal activity often face issues with substance abuse, behavioral issues, criminal activity, self esteem and peer pressure. We offer youth who have both substance abuse issues and who are currently in gangs or at-risk for joining gangs reduction, intervention and prevention services. Through a combination of individual counseling, interactive group sessions, educational documentary materials and supplemental mentoring and tutoring services, our goal is to foster and strengthen family relationships and reduce gang involvement. For more information visit our Youth Gang Reduction, Intervention and Prevention page.

After-Care.
Once an individual graduates from our program, we continue to participate in the recovery process by continuing contact with the individual, the individual's healthcare providers, and even the individual’s mentors and sponsors. Our after-care services include weekly group meetings, and alumni monthly meetings.

Youth Recovery Support Services.
Our comprehensive approach to recovery includes making available valuable recovery support services that address the factors and consequences contributing to substance abuse in youth. Our recovery support services are tailored to the needs of the individual and include employment and educational services, therapeutic recreational activities, peer coaching through small group discussion, life coaching and mentoring, and educational field trips and community service projects.
